I think this has to be one of my favourite pieces from all the exhibitions I saw. It was made my Adam Grinovich and I was told that it was made by some kind of 3D printing with steel. I absolutely love the texture and the sci-fi feel to it, like an engagement ring of the future
Adam Grinovich
This was part of a great show called Hang which was a group of jewellery artists; Heejoo Kim, Hyorim Lee, Nora Rochel, Julia Walter and Adam Grinovich.

This is from a great show called This is So Contemporary, it was an exhibition of three artists from the Acadamy of Fine Arts Munich; Shachar Cohen, Naama Bergman and JooHee Han
An amazing salt crystal necklace by Naama Bergman. The salt is really sparkly making it look like semi precious stones adorning a chain, I love the rust seeping through, giving the piece an industrial feel.

I like the mechanical look of this necklace by Katie Collins
My partner Paul trying his luck at winning a piece of jewellery for me at the Bowling For Success exhibition at a tiny little underground bowling alley
Another great and interesting exhibition called Salto Mortale which was three artists: Barbara Schrobenhauser, Nicola Scholz and Judith Pschibl. Barbara makes amazing paper objects which look like porcelain and she uses really interesting pigments to colour them including whole Cochineal beetles. Judith’s pieces are really cool, geometric forms made from clear plastic with tine slivers of colour on some edges which I really loved.
From an exhibition called Falling Into Place by Despo Sophocleous. Her work is amazing to look at but ever better to feel and move, they are articulated wood and copper and they make such amazing sounds when they move.
Despo Sophocleous
This is a piece by Nicole Beck from her solo show Beloved Strangers. She uses enamel in such an unusual beautiful way. I spoke to her about her work and she explained to me that she uses old photographs as her inspiration, addressing the idea that we have no idea about these people lives but they had full lives as we do, one day someone will be looking at a photograph of us thinking the same thing. I like how eerie her work is.

The very fun exhibition from the Dialogue Collective. Last year they were looking at Dark Things, taking inspiration from Jack the Ripper. This year they focused on the Light, so they used Comedy as their starting point. It was in a tiny little cinema, in the dark with the artists dressed as ushers who led us around with torches on our head.
The Light Side from the Dialogue Collective
Petra Bishai decided to focus the comedy aspect on her display with this brilliant jelly hand.

amazing gold and silver rings cast from toilet paper by Volker Atrops
This was a really great looking exhibition called Paper Plastic Metal Stone which was the work of four artists who each made a series out of one of the materials. The work was really interesting and the display was amazing.
The artists showing were Emi Fukuda, Clementine Edwards, Gillian Campbell Deery and Kate Jayne Britchford
So another amazing year at Schmuck. I didn’t get to see nearly as many shows as I would have liked, but with there being 80 exhibitions as well as the main show at the Messestadt, it’s no easy task! I didn’t take photographs of everything but here are some of my highlights from what I saw. I have put names and descriptions on the photographs so if you like what you see, make sure you check out the jewellery artists!
